"Furthering Faithful Vision: Female Empowerment in Beloved and Parable of the Sower

      Using James Coleman's term "faithful vision", this essay explores the purpose and impact of Christian themes in Toni Morrison's Beloved and Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower to consider the implications these themes have for the empowerment of African American female characters.

      Using Walter Benjamin's essay "Theses on the Philosophy of History", this essay explores the relationship between the past and the present through references to Christianity that can be found in Octavia Butler's Wild Seed and N. K. Jemsin's The Fifth Season

Honors Project - Autumn 2017

"Spiritual Flesh: Religious Influences in Modern Society" 

​

      This creative project uses a line of inquiry approach to create an introduction to an anthology of carefully selected works. This introduction explores the ways in which concepts of prayer can be beneficial in reducing tensions that exist between the body and soul. The form of the collection reflects the basic form of a prayer, consisting of problems, actions and outcomes.
